The Rings of Saturn are proud to present the Master Plan for a transformation of the Saturn campus from a hot, asphalt expanse into a beautiful, green, park-like setting featuring a Forest, Meadow, Amphitheater, Walking Path, as well as Edible, Reading and Native Gardens!

Installation of the Native Garden started in October, 2009, thanks to an Urban Greening Grant from the Children's Nature Institute, Mayor Villaraigosa joined us for the dedication of the Give Back to Gro edible garden on March 20, 2010, thanks to the support of Keep America Beautiful, Scott's, and Lowe's, and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps planted 11 trees on May 4, 2010, thanks to the support of More Trees, Less Walls.

A Successful Summer Scrubdown

On Saturday, July 25, the Saturn campus was swarming with volunteers helping teachers get their classrooms ready for the new year!

We scrubbed down walls and doors, steam cleaned rugs, dusted blinds, washed windows, organized classroom libraries, painted bookcases and fixed what was broken. Whew! It was quite a day, all made possible through the generous support and hard work of our sponsor: Pacific Crossroads Church.

Volunteers from Pacific Crossroads Church participated in Saturn's first Big Sunday last May, and chose Saturn as the site for their annual participation in the Serve the City program. We've formed a wonderful partnership, which we hope to continue for many more service projects!

Big Sunday at Saturn

Saturn's first year participating in Big Sunday was a fantastic success!

With a goal of 50 volunteers, we welcomed more than 100 people for an unbelievably productive day. We landscaped, painted, scrubbed, and enjoyed a delicious lunch sponsored and served by Pico Neighborhood Council members, and end of the day treats donated by our local bakery, La Maison du Pain.

Many thanks to Sherwin-Williams for their generous donation of traffic marking paint for the USA map mural, to Dominos and Vons for subsidizing lunch, and to Home Depot and First Image Nursery for generous discounts!

Our biggest thanks goes to the volunteers who worked so hard -- neighbors, teachers, students with their families, and supporters from across the city -- with such humor and patience as we scrambled to find more buckets and sponges. See photos, with before and after pictures!
